Brisbane’s yet-to-launch $3.6 billion development will host the Professional Conference Organisers Association (PCOA) conference next year. The annual gathering is expected to attract 400 conference organisers in 2024.
The opening of Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf has been pushed out a few more months. The $3.6 billion waterfront development is now expected to open in August. The announcement came just before Christmas after the Destination Brisbane Consortium behind the project settled Queensland Supreme Court proceedings and an adjudication application lodged with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission, both initiated by the development’s builder Multiplex.
Event manager Gina Shaw has joined Elevate Communication’s major events division as it ramps up activity post pandemic. Shaw brings more than 15 years’ experience in the conferencing and events industry to her role at the Brisbane-based marketing agency and is one of just 58 professionals to hold PCOA Certified Events Manager status in Australia and New Zealand.
PCO ICMS Australasia has been embedded into the organising committee since Brisbane won the bid in 2016, helping to deliver this benchmark event, achieving record global participation, sponsorship and government buy-in. The high security event is highly complex – security, stakeholder management, 13 concurrent sessions, satellite meetings, a huge exhibition component, and accredited media.
