PCOA21 postponement

The Professional Conference Organisers Association (PCOA) last night regrettably announced that it was postponing the scheduled annual conference, which was planned for Hobart later this month.

Barry Neame, PCOA president, said the decision to postpone was not taken lightly.

“There was an overwhelming sense of excitement from members and stakeholders that the industry, at last, could come together to celebrate and network after such uncertain times.

“The exhibition had sold out, sponsorship uptake was at an all-time high, and registration numbers were heading toward making the conference the largest PCOA one ever held.

“The 2021 conference was anticipated to be a most positive engagement platform between all sectors of the industry, who have not been able to meet face to face for two years.”

Mr Neame said the postponement decision was based on the COVID situation in most Australian states.

“There’s natural concern from key stakeholders about the safety and wellbeing of attendees, continued uncertainty around travel and potential isolation, and the threat to members’ businesses and employee’s availability for future work.

“The PCOA council agreed that it was the responsible decision to make at this time.”

The PCOA annual conference will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart, Tasmania from 11-13 December 2022.

“We hope that by then there will be no barriers to safely attending the conference and reconnecting with our colleagues within the industry,” said Mr Neame.

PCOA would like to sincerely thank Business Events Tasmania (BET), The Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart, Tourism Australia, ICMI, the conference sponsors and exhibitors who have so far played a major role in what promised to be another successful, productive and memorable conference.

We continue to urge the business events industry to consult with their health practitioners and to follow the advised vaccination protocols, while encouraging their family members, friends, employees and suppliers to do the same.

PCOA will continue to deliver a valuable education program throughout 2022, with the pinnacle being the annual conference in December.
