Case Study: 13th SCAR (International Council for Science –

World first – SCAR’s focus on impactful science looked at Antarctica and the Southern Ocean in global systems, recognising and reflecting the value of Māori mātauranga (knowledge).

For the first time, a half-day was dedicated to showcasing Māori exploration and research in the Deep South, including the official launch of the first indigenous-led Antarctic research programme in the world. The introduction by local leaders and experts created a deep impression with the international audience, creating lasting memories for all delegates.

Barry Neame, President of the Professional Conference Organisers Association has proudly represented our association and its members at the recent ACCI Tourism Committee meeting in Canberra. The day was filled with discussions on crucial topics impacting the tourism industry. With workforce issues, Tourism Australia Bid Fund Grants, Visa policies for tourism, and airline cancellations on the agenda, it was evident that the challenges facing the sector were being addressed head-on.

PCOA23 Networking Function

In December we at ILA, Adelaide’s Centre of Immersive Light and Art (formerly known as Light ADL) had the honour of welcoming over 400 guests through the doors of our 150 year old heritage building. One venue, 2 floors, 4 event spaces and over 200sqm of LED screens were brought to life for the PCOA 2023 Networking Function.
