After an illustrious career spanning nearly 24 years at the Cairns Convention Centre, Jenny Graham, has announced her retirement. Her tenure has been marked by numerous achievements and memorable moments, significantly contributing to the Centre’s success.
CASE STUDY – The International Society for Viruses of Microorganisms (ISVM) advances the study and application of microorganism viruses, including archaeal viruses, bacteriophages, and viruses of microbial eukaryotes. The Viruses of Microbes Conference, initiated in Paris in 2010 and has been held biennially across Europe. In July 2024, it debuted in Cairns, Australia, attracting over 500 global participants to discuss microbial virus research advancements.
Cairns Convention Centre has once again achieved AIPC Quality Standards certification with the successful completion of their audit this month by the designated external auditor. Having first achieved gold level certification in 2011, Cairns Convention Centre has now achieved re-certification at the Gold Level.
A revamped Cairns Convention Centre has been revealed as a winner at the Far North Queensland Architecture Awards on May 17. The Convention Centre’s expansion, designed by Cox Architects and CA Architects, took out the top building of the year prize.

The Cairns Convention Centre is getting ready to open its $176 million expansion, cementing Tropical North Queensland as a premiere business destination. Janet Hamilton, General Manager at Cairns Convention Centre, says the expansion adds a rooftop banquet area, outdoor terrace, three flexible meeting rooms, an exhibition and plenary space in the 10,500sqm of new floor space now available. This gives Cairns Convention Centre the ability to host multiple or larger events, with conventions and exhibitions of up to 2,500 guests now able to be accommodated in the entire venue.
