Ongoing Advocacy for PCOA Members

September 2021

We wanted to take a moment to share with you the ongoing work the PCOA Councillors and team are undertaking to continue to “push the barrel” for business events to both federal and state government ministers.

We understand how tough it is for all of us at this time, and want you to know we are here for you and doing our best to continue to raise awareness as best we can of our plight.

As you know, we have both our President Barry Neame, and VIC councillor Mike Pickford on the BECA board, who lobby continually at a federal level for support for the industry, with some recent headway being made with Minister Tehan. We hope to share updates in the coming week or two on that front.

Lately we have commenced a new round of correspondence to relevant state ministers, and wanted to share with you the correspondence sent to the NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, and the QLD minister The Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe, Minister for Tourism Industry Development and Innovation and Minister for Sport.

To date no response from the QLD minister, but have shared the response from Minister Ayres.

Additionally, in NSW, our councillor Karen Sainsbury has been active in a newly formed Sydney Business Events Coalition, representing PCOA. A series of media releases and letters to NSW ministers is currently active, and we will share more detail in the coming days as this is able to be released to you.

Please consider writing a letter yourself to your local federal and state ministers, whilst we may not see additional financial support immediately forthcoming, perhaps it will continue to drive the need for a return to business plan for the country as a whole, and quickly!
