ICMSA readies for historic June with three meetings starting on the same day
Australasia’s oldest professional conference organiser ICMSA has had plenty of industry firsts in its 57 year history but has never managed three meetings all starting on the same day.
Come June 26, ICMSA staff will be manning registration desks in Brisbane and Melbourne in preparation for an influx of close to 5,000 delegates attending three separate meetings.
The International Conference on Conversation Analysis at the University of Queensland, the 26th World Mining Congress at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, and the University of Melbourne MD Student Conference all begin on Monday, June 26.
Combined, the three meetings will require the coordination and management of hundreds of speakers and presenters, exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers, social events, entertainers, transport logistics, accommodation bookings and AV requirements.
The World Mining Congress will be particularly busy with an anticipated 3,000 delegates attending almost 50 plenary keynotes and panel sessions and 1,200 presentations in 13 industry streams over the four-day program. A 120-booth exhibition is also part of the congress.
ICMSA Owner and Managing Director, Emma Bowyer, said many of ICMSA staff had been working for years on these events and the culmination of all that hard work would be realised as soon as the doors to each opened on June 26.
“I know that as a professional conference organiser this is what we live for: all of the meticulous planning, the committee meetings, the conference program, the work on the social programs, budgets, and sourcing and securing sponsors all leads to this one multi-day event,” she said.
“It’s exciting to see it all come together and we’re fortunate that we have the skilled staff to be able to manage three complex programs in the one week in June.”
Staff from ICMSA’s Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane offices will be on-hand at the three meetings, many there days before the actual events kick off to complete last-minute preparations.
At their conclusion they will be heading home and preparing to do it all again in July, with two of three international meetings for that calendar month again starting on the same day.
