The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay 2023 produced by Perfect Events given the royal tick of approval by King Charles ahead of its Australia launch.
Perfect Events, one of Australia’s leading event companies, is celebrating the launch of The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay 2023, presented by Defence Health as it starts its Australian leg of the tour. The relay, which was produced by Perfect Events, CEO, Liliana Sanelli kicked off on April 23 in Pozières, France.
The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay 2023, presented by Defence Health started its journey in Pozieres, France before heading to Belgium and then London where the the first official relay leg was launched by HRH King Charles III. During the London event, the King thanked Sanelli for the work she has undertaken for Legacy and called her creation of the Torch Relay ‘GENIUS’.
The torch landed in Albany, Western Australia last week where it started its tour of the home nation. During the six-month relay event the torch will travel over 50,000km and through 100 locations, the torch relay will finish in Melbourne, Victoria in October 2023 with the goal of raising $10 million to help enable Legacy to continue to support and empower veterans families for the next 100 years.
The 100-year commemoration of Legacy is the brainchild of Perfect Events CEO, Liliana Sanelli, who came up with the idea in lockdown and pitched it to the Legacy board. She was asked to come back when she had raised $500,00 to show the project had legs, she was able to raise $1.2m within the time frame. Once the project was given the go ahead in September 2021, Sanelli, working as the event’s Executive Producer and Director started to build team of professionals to organise sponsorship, fundraising, operations, PR and Marketing to get the initiative off the ground.
The charity relay race commemorates Legacy’s Centenary, which is a charity organisation that supports veterans and their families based on a promise made in 1923, by a soldier to his dying mate in the trenches of WW1 to “look after the missus and the kids”.
Perfect Events CEO Liliana Sanelli said: “This torch relay has been a long time in the making and to see it finally come to life and celebrate the real roots of Legacy is unbelievable. My team and I have worked incredibly hard to get this far and have created and managed every element of this gargantuan event. There have been times when we have wondered if would get it off the ground. So having the King of England thank me for my work and call me a genius is very humbling. We are so excited for the relay to be in Australia and urge people to come along, get involved and dig deep for this wonderful charity.”
During the Centenary tour, the torch will travel 50,000 kilometres, with 100 stops over six months, and be carried by 1300 Torch Bearers, all with a personal connection to Legacy or the Defence Force.
