Jenifer Dwyer Slee has received a Lifetime Award from the Professional Conference Organisers (PCO) Association, marking the first time a Canberran has been honoured with the award and making her one of only eight Australians to be awarded the title. Jenifer-Dwyer Slee, the director of sales and marketing at the National Convention Centre (NCC), working for InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), received the award in recognition of her “support, encouragement and mentoring to the business events sector in Australia”.
Barry Neame, president of the PCO Association, presented the award in Adelaide on November 30 during the annual PCOA Conference, saying Dwyer is also the first person to be awarded the Lifetime Award who is not an actual PCO, but rather a professional from the wider industry sector.
“Jenifer truly cares about bringing business to Australia and to Canberra and has been open and generous in sharing her knowledge in how the hotel sector operates with PCOs, to help with their professional development and upskilling,” he said. “This includes helping young people entering the industry acquire quality skills and quickly. Jenifer has always been open to being a mentor.”
Dwyer said that the growth in the tourism sector meant there had never been a better time to join the industry.
“It’s full of opportunity and that’s why it’s important for those of us who have been in the industry for a while to share knowledge and seize opportunities to mentor,” she said.
